img01Hi everyone, my name is Monique Domovitch. I am the author of a number of popular books. When I am not writing, I am either cooking or eating. 😀 For as long as I can remember I have loved to cook and bake. If you have been following this site for longer than four months, you probably noticed a major change. Until recently, the site was dedicated solely to diet recipes. Recently I was shocked to find out that I have celiac disease, which means no more gluten.

What?

No more bread? No more pastries? No more pasta? That’s right—at least none that contain wheat, rye, spelt or barley. This not only changed my personal life, but how was I supposed to keep testing new recipes that contained gluten. Impossible. Once I got over my initial shock, I rolled back my sleeves and embarked on a quest to replace all my favorites with non-gluten versions. I was NOT going to stop eating bread and pastries. This is why my site has recently been reborn as a gluten-free recipe site. However, as the old saying goes, you cant’s expect a tiger to change its stripes. Once a diet watcher, always a diet watcher. So gluten free and low-cal to boot.

As an interesting turn of events, I have since discovered a silver lining to going gluten free. I have been losing weight, not a lot, only seven pounds so far. But those pounds came off without any effort, without once feeling hungry or deprived. And the weight is still coming off, a little bit every week. Wheat, it turns out, was causing hikes and then drops in my blood sugar, sending me to the fridge looking for snacks way too often. Since abandoning gluten I seem to have lost many of my cravings. I have a greater ability to control my portion size. I am satisfied with one cookie—something I would never have believed.
I’ve been cooking gluten free for a few months now, and when I serve these dishes to my family or my friends, everybody loves them. So go ahead, try them.

And please let me know what you think. Oh, and don’t hesitate to send in your own favorite recipes. If they aren’t already, I might adapt them to a gluten free version.
